Micronesia has so far confirmed only one case of Covid-19. The Polynesian island of Samoa and the island of Vanuatu in the Pacific Ocean have only three cases each.
Sounds like safe travel choices? There is only one problem – no one allows tourists.
Many islands opened to tourists during the pandemic experienced an increase in coronavirus infections shortly thereafter.
But there are exceptions.
The following destinations kept Covid rates low by drawing up strict protocols, which often include the requirements for ‘vacation in place’.
Although the small Caribbean island of Anguilla opened to international visitors in November, it has so far registered only 18 cases of Covid-19, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
Travelers to the British Overseas Territory, located east of the British and American Virgin Islands, should pre-approved to enter and test negative for Covid-19 before arrival, after landing and again after a “stay” period of 10 or 14 days (depending on where travelers visit).

During this period travelers can stay at home hotels and villas and eat in restaurants, provided it is ‘Safe Environment Certified’, according to the Anguilla Tourist Board website. They can also go golfing, diving and foreign excursions, as long as it is also certified by the government.
Travelers can request a “short stay” (less than three months) for about $ 250 per person. Remote workers, students and their families can apply under a separate “digital nomad” program, which costs $ 2,000 to stay up to a year.
Vaccination rate: 26% of the population had at least one dose from 26 February (unless otherwise stated, all vaccination rates of the Our world in data website).
The 100-square-kilometer island of Saint Kitts and Nevis has registered 41 cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
When the country reopened its borders more than four months ago, the dual island nation did not assign risk levels to travelers from different countries, as ‘all visitors are considered a high-risk area’, according to the tourism authority’s website.
All incoming travelers must be approved to enter and must be negative before arriving, including children and vaccinated.

But Saint Kitts and Nevis is more specifically about testing than most. The test window before departure is short (between 48 and 72 hours before departure) and tests should be nasopharyngeal RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) tests “conducted at laboratories that have an ISO / IEC 17025 standard,” according to the website.
“Those traveling from the US should look for laboratories that are CLIA-certified (CDC-approved) and those from the UK should refer to UKAS-approved laboratories,” it reads, referring to the latter Kingdom Accreditation Service, a national body providing testing and other services.
The website states that test results from the US laboratory company LabCorp are not accepted. However, a Saint Kitts tourism representative told OilGasJobz Global Traveler that this information is “outdated” and no longer applicable, and that travelers can email test questions in advance.
Travelers arriving by plane must stay in their hotel for the first week of their trip, although they can communicate with other guests and participate in hotel activities. Those who test negative on the eighth day can move around the island to choose places including Fort Brimstone Hill, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the historic sites in the capital Basseterre. Note: Travelers from the United Kingdom must be quarantined at their hotels and are not currently ‘on holiday’.
Guests who test negative after 14 days on the island can join the locals, who have about 53,000 inhabitants.
Vaccination rate: about 10% of the population as of March 10 (according to a tourism representative for the country).
Although the historic part of Macao is located on a peninsula closely connected to the Chinese mainland, the Macao island of Cotai is a major tourist attraction due to its large casino complex, including the 10.5 million-square-foot Venetian Macao meter.
Like Hong Kong, Macao is a special administrative region in China. Although largely open only to residents of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, it still represents almost 20% of the world population.

Quarantine periods range from zero (for travelers from most parts of China) to 21 days (for travelers from Hong Kong). Casino shares rose when Macao announced last month that Chinese travelers no longer need negative test results to enter casinos (although they must still have negative tests to enter Macao).
Macao’s population is much larger than the other places on this list, with almost 650,000 people. So far, however, 48 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in China counts cases of coronavirus different from most countries by excluding asymptomatic positive cases from official counts.

Grenada is home to about 112,000 people, and has confirmed a total of 148 cases of coronavirus.

Before departure, travelers must book accommodation, register for a certificate to enter and test negative for Covid-19. Upon arrival, travelers must quarantine on the fifth day and pass a PCR test, with the results approximately two days later.

Although it has 40,000 fewer inhabitants than Grenada, the island of Dominica has registered three more cases as its neighbor in the Caribbean – or 151 in total.
After the island nation between Martinique and Guadeloupe reopened to tourists in August, he launched a program called ‘Safe in Nature’ in October that allows travelers to stay home. certified accommodation and take certified transportation to selected locations on the island for the first five to seven days of a trip. This is part of what Dominica calls a ‘managed experience’.
