Bill Gates wants to do his part to try to reduce the impact of a warming planet. He has just published a book on climate change. It appears that he also changed parts of his life to reduce carbon emissions.
In Gates’ latest Ask-me-anything-session on Reddit Friday, one user asked Microsoft co-founder what people can do to reduce their carbon emissions. Among other things, he recommended that people consume less.
Another user responded by asking what he does to consume less.
“As for the personal front, I do a lot more,” Gates wrote. “I drive electric cars. I have solar panels at my house. I eat synthetic meat (of the time!). I buy green aviation fuel. I pay for direct air capture through Climeworks. I help finance electric heat pumps in low layers cost housing to to replace natural gas. “
In November, Gates made headlines after predicting that more than half of all business trips to the coronavirus pandemic would disappear. On Friday, he showed how it can manifest in his own schedule.
“I plan to fly much less now that the pandemic has shown that we can get by with fewer trips,” he wrote. Microsoft is creating the Teams app that enables workers to chat and meet video calls. While Gates retired from Microsoft this year, he remains a Microsoft investor and continues to evaluate products the company develops.
Gates also mentions programs in which he is involved in encouraging green efforts.
“I created Breakthrough energy the Venture Fund, Fellows and Catalyst included to help with the climate, “he wrote.” For me, the innovation is what will make it possible to provide services to everyone without emissions. “
